The Road to Mallow – The 2023 Munster u14 Super 10’s

This coming Saturday, our South winning U17 and U13 teams will receive their medals alongside our County winning U14 Super 10s at 5pm in the Swan Juvenile Hall. All are welcome to attend and show appreciation to these victorious teams.

Before Saturday, we’ll revisit each team’s victorious campaign starting with The Road to Mallow for our Munster Championship competing u14 Super 10’s.

Firstly, the Munster Super 10’s is a competition run by Munster Coaching & Games for clubs throughout the Province.

It is played at 10 a side, with the games played from the 21m line to the 21m line. The games are fast, action-packed, and competitive with every player guaranteed game time.

In 2023, the competition was broken into 3 rounds. Round 1 was the South Tipperary Super 10’s, with the top teams qualifying for the County Super 10’s. The winners of the County Super 10’s (Round 2) then qualified for the Munster Super 10’s Finals weekend (Round 3).

Back in June 2023, our u14’s took part in the South Tipperary Super 10’s competition where our boys drew with Clonmel Og and defeated Mullinahone, Ballylooby, and St. Patrick’s in the group stages. These results qualified our boys for the South Final where we beat Ballylooby. The win qualified us for the County Super 10’s in October.

On a cold October night, our u14’s travelled to Dr. Morris Park in Thurles, we topped our County group beating Durlas Og, Roscrea, and Cashel King Cormacs. This meant that we qualified for the Munster Finals on November 4th, 2023, in Mallow GAA Complex, Co. Cork.

Below in Mallow, we topped our group by defeating North Tipperary’s Newport GAA club and also two Limerick teams, Killmallock and Murroe Boher. The three wins meant we went straight through to the Munster Final, where another Limerick team awaited us, Monaleen.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be in the Munster Final, where Monaleen proved too strong for us on the day, but what an achievement by our boys to get that far.

The adventure of the 2023 Super 10’s competition will no doubt live long in the memory for our boys as they continue their development playing u15 in 2024.

Hopefully, it won’t be the last time these boys play in a Munster Club competition for the club, in the years ahead.
