Sometimes in life when a tragedy strikes there are just no adequate words that can offer any sense of real comfort to a heartbroken family and in that situation all people can do is be there to support the McGrath and Walsh families and Mikey’s friends as best they can.
From a Swan club perspective we remember Mikey ‘Muscles’ McGrath as an extremely talented young man who played in one of the most difficult positions in goal, as brave as they come and although small in stature he had the athleticism to ensure he was as good as the rest. His smiling face will be remembered fondly by us all. May he rest in peace.
Our Senior hurlers set up a final round County League game with Clonakenny to see who tops the group, gets promoted, and also qualifies for the County League Division 2 final when we beat Cashel on Sunday last. We play Clonakenny on Sunday June 23rd, with the game provisionally fixed for Boherlahan at 12 noon in a winner takes all game.
Our u14 hurlers took part in the Munster Feile na nGael competition held in WIT Arena in Waterford City on Saturday last. Teams from Limerick, Tipperary, and Waterford took part. We drew with St Patricks/Naomh Brid from Waterford, beat Kilsheelan/Kilcash, and lost to Ballygunner from Waterford in our group games. It was enough to qualify us for the Munster Semi-Final where we played excellently and beat a very good Clonea (Waterford) side by 6 points to advance to the Munster Final where we took on Killenaule. Despite a great 2nd half display by Swan, Killenaule proved to be the better team on the day in the final, winning by 5 points in the end. Unlucky boys.
Congratulations to Phil Kearney who won €1,000 in the Tipperary GAA draw last week.
