The draw was made last week for the revamped County Senior Hurling League. We were drawn in Division 2 Group 1 along with Templederry Kenyon’s, Silvermines, Holycross-Ballycahill, Clonakenny, St. Mary’s, Cashel King Cormac’s, and Borrisokane. Our Adult hurlers had a good run out last weekend in Davin Park against Clonea, as they continue their preparations for the year.
Our Minor footballers are expecting to play their first game this coming weekend. Opposition to be confirmed.
On Thursday last, the lawnmowers moved in to give our new field its first haircut. Some nutrients were also added to the soil last week to help with grass growth. The grass is maturing nicely at the moment.
All club members have been invited to a special mass in St Nicholas’s Church on March 13th to commemorate the work of all the sports club in the parish. Save the date.
Well done to Oranmore-Maree, @GAAMareeOran who won the All-Ireland Intermediate Club Hurling Final in Croke Park on Sunday last. Our club hosted their u14 team for Féile na nGael in 2016 which was a great experience for everyone.
Last week’s jackpot was €7,000 and there was no winner. Four people were just one number off winning or sharing the jackpot. Those four matched 3 and won €50 each. The numbers drawn were 07 – 16 – 19 – 25. This week’s jackpot is €7,250. It costs just €2 to enter and you can play through any of our ticket sellers, or online, via our website. Your continued support is most welcome and greatly appreciated by all in the club.
The club are saddened to hear of the passing of Jackie O’Neill formerly of Town Wall and 33 St Nicholas Park who died peacefully in Devon, England recently in his 83rd year.
Jackie emigrated to England in the 50’s but never lost his grá for the Swan, and when he used to come home particularly in the 70s and 80s he enjoyed nothing more than watching the Swan play.
A wonderful conversationalist Jackie was great company, he was particularly proud of his uncle, the late Jock Barry who of course was on our county senior hurling team of 1947.
Hailing from a loyal Swan family, his loss will be felt most of all by the O’Neill family to whom we send our deepest sympathy. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dilis.
