Our Seniors made it 3 wins on the trot in the Co Hurling League, played in blistering hot conditions this morning, in Cashel.
We showed glimpses of why we were South Champions last year, and although we failed to really ignite, we looked comfortable throughout.
A Kevin Lanigan goal in the 26th minute helped us go in 4 points up at half time. 1-10 to 1-06. The goal came from a long ball into James Waters who caught and passed to the on-rushing Lanigan who shot low and hard from 13 metres out giving the Cashel keeper no chance.
Cashel scored a goal just before half-time to bring the back into the game.
In the second half, we continued to show glimpses of brilliance, but it wasn’t until the 16th minute of the second half when we really took a foothold when a sublime Damien McCarthy pass found an on-rushing Eric O’ Halloran, who then side-stepped a defender before burying it into the back of the net.
This goal was followed with a a James Waters goal in the 22nd minute of the half.
Shortly afterwards, in the 25th minute, Danny Walsh rushed out like a train to block a goalbound effort with his body to make sure it wasn’t going to be a nervy ending.
Full Time: Swan 3-16 Cashel 2-13
All in all, it was a good run out for our lads as they prepare for their upcoming County Championship games, which are yet to be fixed.
Unfortunately the win wasn’t enough to secure second spot and gain a Semi Final place. Moyne Templetuohy and Knockavilla Kickhams drew, which means Knockavilla finish top with Moyne coming in second, one point ahead of us in third.
