Official Opening of Synthetic Grass Training Area & Ball Wall

The club extends an open invitation to all to join with us in what is another major milestone in the club’s history as we officially open our new synthetic grass playing area and ball wall which takes place on Friday August 2nd at 7.00pm.

Following fast on the official opening of Páirc na nEalaí by GAA President Larry McCarthy on April 30th 2024 it is hard to believe that in little more than one year later we have completed the latest phase of the project which gives us a fully enclosed 1,750m2 synthetic pitch and a 35-meter ball skills wall with an LED flood lighting system.

The areas around the synthetic pitch have also had a tarmacadam roadway and paths laid by Caharaclough Tarmacadam Ltd and the grass areas have been landscaped by Waterford Landscapes.

JNC Premier Pitches from Cashel were the main contractors for this project, they were a company we were glad to work with and knew well as we had previously used them for all our fencing requirements since 2018 and they began the groundworks in late January once the weather allowed and true to their word they delivered a completed top-class facility to us in mid-April.

This synthetic playing area is a major asset to the club as it will now allow for training/skill work to take place all the year round particularly once the nights draw in and all through the winter months activities can now be organised for young and old alike and again copper fastens the club as one of the most progressive around.

The cost of completing such a project does not come cheap with an outlay to date in excess of €270,000 and as such we are very grateful to the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media for our Sports Capital grant of €80,439.

We will also hope to avail of a percentage GAA Club Development Grant for works completed to date and this is jointly funded by Central Council and the Munster Council, it should be noted that the GAA are second to none in giving money back to the clubs through these annual grants at County Convention.

However, without our club committee and volunteers and of course the weekly Lotto the annual Christmas Draw and our Sponsors, projects like this could not even be dreamt of, so thanks to all who support these vital club fundraisers.

We now again rely on your continued support as we plan the next stage of the development of Páirc na nEalaí which will be a covered seating area once finances allow, this will begin in earnest with the launch of our 2024 “12 Days of Christmas Draw” which will also be launched at our opening.

Páirc na nEalaí is now a facility that is up there with the very best.

Na hEalaí Abú
